Agricultural Business Opportunities Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

The growing Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia has a multi-sectoral impact. Even so, the agricultural sector must not stop to meet the food needs of 267 million Indonesians.

In a video conference themed “Profit from Millennial Farmers’ Food Businesses in the Midst of the 19th Pandemic”, Wednesday (4/22/2020), representing the Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture (Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture) Momon Rusmono warned,” In the midst of joint efforts to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, it must not be missed by the food problem. If that happens, economic social problems will follow.

“Agriculture is the vanguard in the prevention of Covid-19 because food is a buffer for our health. If food needs are met, the immunity of the community will be maintained so that we will be able to fight Covid-19. In other words, food is the agent against Covid-19 most effective.” Add Dedi.

Dedi also added that currently the Ministry of Agriculture is struggling to meet the availability of 11 food commodities. This is a business opportunity for millennial farmers, especially now that the government has implemented a Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) policy, which limits community activities.

“In terms of food availability, there are business opportunities that can be exploited by millennial farmers, from on-farm to online distribution,” Dedi said.

“Currently the Ministry of Agriculture has cooperated with marketplaces, such as Gojek, Grab, Tokopedia, Lazada, and many online stores which made directly by millennial farmers. This is a very good moment to grow IT-based millennial farmers through the development of startups in agriculture,” added Momon
